The Cochin Special Economic Zone (CSEZ) is a multi-product special economic zone located at Kochi, Kerala. It is established in an area of 41.7 hectares.
Cochin is being developed by the Dubai Ports International as a container trans-shipment terminal with direct sailings to important markets of the world, which could position it as Hub for South Asia.
It is a multi-product zone, with industrial units operating in Electronics Hardware, Engineering, Gem & Jewellery, IT & ITES, Agro& Food Processing, Textile & garments, Plastic & Rubber etc. The traditional items like ready made garments and rubber products had been on comparative decline.
The Cochin Export Processing Zone has already been converted into an SEZ. Government have already taken the lead to develop a Greater Cochin SEZ by adding on more phases of the SEZ at Cochin Port, Cochin Airport, and by forming customs-bonded industrial areas along the Airport-Seaport Highway connecting the two, to form an Industrial Corridor, to the existing SEZ at Cochin.
